How Often Should You Wax?

How to space waxing sessions by body area, why the 3–4 week window exists, and how hormones, seasons, and travel change the schedule.

scheduling regrowth aftercare

“How often should I wax?” has one short answer — three to four weeks — and one long answer that depends on the area, your growth cycle, the season, and what you have booked in the diary. Here is both.

The short answer

Every 3–4 weeks for most areas and most people. That window exists because hair grows in cycles, and waxing only removes hair in the active growth phase. Come back while hairs are still short and the pull is clean; wait too long and you are re-waxing length that could have been trimmed.

By area

AreaIdeal spacingWhy
Brazilian / bikini3–4 weeksFast follicle turnover in the area; hairs pass the easy-pull length quickly
Underarms3–4 weeksFine hair, but growth starts visibly within a month
Facial (lip, chin, brows)3–4 weeksFine hair shows against skin sooner than you think
Full legs4–5 weeksLeg hair cycles slower; smoothness reads longer
Arms4–5 weeksFiner hair, slower visual regrowth

Sessions stretch naturally over time — clients who have waxed for a year often find five-week spacing holds results that used to need three.

Why your schedule drifts (and what to do about it)

Hormones. Menstrual cycles, pregnancy, stopping or starting contraception, and thyroid changes all shift growth speed. If regrowth suddenly accelerates, check the calendar before blaming technique.

Season. In Phoenix, summer means more visible regrowth — heat, friction from lighter clothing, and swimming all make a three-week schedule feel tight. Many clients shift to three weeks in summer and five in winter.

Travel and events. Book backwards from the date. For a trip, schedule three to five days out — long enough for initial redness to settle, close enough that you are still smooth on day one. See waxing in Phoenix summers for seasonal timing.

Technique drift. Shaving between sessions resets progress: a shaved hair grows back with a blunt tip that feels like stubble within days and cannot be waxed until it lengthens again. If you shave mid-cycle, expect the next appointment to need full length — and the one after that to return to normal.

The consistency effect

The reason regular clients need less willpower than first-timers: hair that is repeatedly extracted from the root often returns finer, softer, and more sparsely. Consistency is not about discipline — it is about staying ahead of the growth cycle long enough for the follicle to change its output.

Practical version: book your next appointment before you leave the current one. The slot you take at week zero determines whether you are waxing at week three on your terms or scrambling at week five.

Putting it together

Start at three weeks for Brazilian and underarms, four to five for legs and arms. Adjust one week at a time based on what you see — not what the calendar says you owe.
